Hello All

Post by NonConformist on Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:17 am

Some of y'all know me, others do not. I came here as I seem to have gotten banned from MR since they arent so 'right' after all, at least not some of them.

Evidently many value a percieved sense of Security over freedom and the BoR.

I dont plan on being disruptive and am respectful of others views but I will stand my ground and I will stand on my beliefs.

Hopefully, heres to many posts!

NonCon how are you? It's Socialist Swine if you didn't know, but I prefer my name here. Good to see you, though you probably already realise this place is a graveyard that me and 'Beer like to muck around on. Conservative Core is too much for me these days, I really don't have the motivation to make a fight of things against some of the extreme views there. Ah well....good to see you. elephant

Ditto.

Unfortunately, I've been too busy cranking the handle on my capitalism machine to spend much time in any forums lately. I'll try to visit here a bit more often.

We could use some help from Old Goat, Buzzy and others.

My Conservative Core days are over, I've given up. Its too hard trying to argue with ten different people at once, and I admit that I just didn't have the mental stamina to keep up. Its too bad, I enjoy a good debate as much as the next person, but things just got too confrontational and hateful over there. Disappointing.

Oh yes, you were a shining light of restrain. You can be insightful and astute when the mood takes you, but I don't think the many dissenting voices of Conservative Core helped bring out that side of you. Regardless, its easier to deal with one arch-conservative than a dozen or so.

NOt to knock the people there . . . well, not all of them. But it did have kind of a locker room attitude, and that brings out the beast in me.

What exactly is the standard for defining a view as extreme?

Well, speaking for myself, I've no idea. THough I guess in general, my beliefs of the importance of personal liberty are 'extreme' in the eys of Dems and Repubs. Then again, the "L"ibertarian Party's views are a bit "extreme" regarding a few specific points for my taste. Extreme is probably the wrong word, but I differ strongly with some of them.

I guess I would define it as far outside the norms. If you want to have an extreme view then fine, but I don't have to like it. Of course under my definition my own views may be regarded as extreme, but I make the distinction that I did not frame mine in hateful language, and tried my very best to not be abusive to others (couldn't control myself all the time). Actual real debate was sadly lacking.

I've never cared for the title "extreme". This is because it lacks an objective standard. So, I can't really consider any ideology or philosophy as extreme. Typically, "extreme" is just a title given to those whose opinions are unpopular with or feared by the majority. It is just arbitrarily stamped to discredit individuals who are more consistent than others. I've been called extreme because of my beliefs regarding the proper role of government, the idea of individual liberty, and my unapologetic support for laissez-faire capitalism. But I don't consider myself extreme, just as I don't consider socialists to be extreme.

Well, sorry if I contributed to that. I typically stay out of anything flamewar-ish though.

I agree. Most of the more religious-type Conservatives on the site seem unable or unwilling to engage in good discussion outside of "Fuck those liberal pussies!". And apparently, they have recently been avoiding a lot of the discussions because they don't want to get drawn into the debate with the more libertarian members.

I definitely see your point and you may be right. However, would you regard the views of neo-Nazi's as extreme? I don't think the word would be inappropriate in that case.
