can't create recent topics thingy

yeah, sorry people, there's nothing in the admin section that allows me to insert the code i got from ferret, i tried putting a couple times but it didn't work - thanks btw if you're reading this - and to create a recent posts/topics thingy at the top of the homepage.

most boards of this type you have to go to the main page and then hit "post since last visit" on the top right. It would how ever be nice if they were on every page.
