Similar to the difference in words such as rumor and rumour, humor and humour, aging and ageing, check and cheque, defense and defence, criticize and criticise and many more.
I often use the British English spelling of words as I'm a bit of an Anglophile and voracious reader of English literature. I also ejoy English humour.

the forum system is run by french speakers, either from france or canada, I assume... so it might actually be a typo and not british english
some of the themes that you can apply have french buttons - membres instead of members, groupes instead of groups, and so forth.
