Yesterday was the best day ever

Yesterday was the best day ever
Yesterday was the best day ever.
My wife was released from the hospital.
When we got home our power was back on from the ice storm (5 days).
My home phone was working.
My internet was working.
My work went back on regular 8 hour shifts (instead of 12 hours)
And I got my days off this weekend.
We got snow instead of ice in the 2nd storm now hitting us.

That would be a great day. Glad everything is getting better.

I'll be arrogant and answer for Buzzy.
As George Kennedy once said in an episode of The Blue Night, he's a public attitude adjuster.

I like to refer to myself as a Peace Officer as opposed to the modern term Law Enforcement Officer but yeah, that's what I am. We go to 12 hour shifts during times of emergency like last week when 90% of our community was without power due to the ice storm. I started this career late in life at the ripe old age of 29 years after being first in the Army and then in the employ of the Federal government.

cool.. any geniounly dangerous situations encountered in your career ? d'you ever have to handle a situation involving hostages or something ? like a break in or a hold up of some sorts ?
Re: Yesterday was the best day ever
I'm a crisis negotiator (what used to be called a hostage negotiator) and most of our calls of that nature are more domestic than criminal. I've only had one crime turned hostage incident in the past 20 years but plenty of boyfriend / husband / babies daddy takes wife / gfriend / booty call hostage deals.
Years ago I would have had my head blown clear off with a sawed off 12 gauge except for a dud cartridge. I can still hear the hammer fall even after all those years. I damned near beat the guy to death with his own shotgun on that one. It took a few seconds (forever) for me to figure out I was still alive. We both were looking at the gun amazed it hadn't gone off then I took it away from him and "took him into custody".
Lots of war stories over the past 20 years as a cop.

Been there. Glad that was a dud.
From my experience, the loudest sound in a gunfight, is a click.

Re: Yesterday was the best day ever
Especially around Christmas. We had a gal come in on the 23rd and bitch us out because we were not staying open later than 5:00pm; she wanted to send a some presents to Europe and make there by Christmas.Buzzy wrote:and people wonder why they go "postal"
I wasn't a teller, but I was picking up the mail to take to the dock, when I heard this. I retorted with, "Yeah, because you haven't had a year to send this. It's not Christmas just snuck up on us." The tellers laughed.

Re: Yesterday was the best day ever
You should have heard the people when the power went off in the ice storm. They were calling the PD demanding we turn their power back on which was funny because our power was off too (we were running on generator). It never ceases to amaze me how many people go through life without a thought of what can happen in their heads (typical democrats). These morons would call and ask for an officer to give them a ride to the store (which wasn't open because their power was out too). The amazing that was that our mail was still delivered every day.
